आधुनिक युग में लगभग सभी छेत्रो कम्प्यूटर का प्रयोग होता है इसलिए आज के इस युग को कम्प्यूटर का युग कहा जाता है।
कुछ मुख्य छेत्रो में, कम्प्यूटर के अनुप्रयोग निम्नलिखित है।
1. शिच्छा (Education) इंटरनेट के माध्यम से हम किसी भी विषय की जानकारी कुछ ही छड़ो में प्राप्त कर सकते है। स्कूल और कॉलेज को भी इंटरनेट से जोड़ दिया गया है तथा कई जगहों पर स्मार्ट क्लासेज का प्रयोग किया जा रहा है , जो कम्प्यूटर की वजह से ही संभव है।
3. संचार (Communication) कम्प्यूटर के प्रयोग ने छेत्र के छेत्र में इंटरनेट के प्रयोग को संभव बनाया है। कंप्यूटर के आभाव में आधुनिक संचार व्यवस्था की कल्पना नहीं की जा सकती है। टेलीफोन और इंटरनेट ने संचार की क्रांति को जन्म दिया है।
4. चिकित्सा (Medical) चिकित्सा के छेत्र में कम्प्यूटर का अनुप्रयोग विभिन्न शारीरिक रोंगो को पता लगाने के लिए किया जाता है। रोंगो का निदान भी कम्प्पूटर द्वारा संभव है। आधुनिक युग में एक्से -रे , सिटी - स्कैन , इत्यादि विभिन्न जांचों में कम्प्यूटर का प्रयोग वितरत रूप से हो रहा है।
5. मनोरंजन (Entertainment) मनोरंजन के छेत्र में कम्प्यूटर का उपयोग प्रायः है सिनेमा , टेलीविज़न , कार्यक्रमों , विडिओ गेम इत्यादि की रूप में किया जाता है। इसमें कंप्यूटर ग्राफ़िक का प्रयोग किया जाता है। ग्राफ़िक की सहायता से ही फिल्मो में ऐसे विशेष प्रभाव भी डेल जाते है , जो पहले संभव नहीं थे।
6. रक्षा एवं अंतरिछ टेक्नोलॉजी (Defence and Space technology) मिसाइल , रडार , वायुयान नियंत्रड , अंतरिछ की घटनाओ , ग्रहो उपग्रहों आदि का अध्यन करने में भी कम्प्यूटर का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
7. विज्ञान और इंजीनियरिंग (Science and Engineering) कम्प्यूटर का उपयोग कठिन गडितऔर वैज्ञानिक गड़नाओ को करने में किया जाता है। इनके अतिरिक्त , कम्प्यूटर कई तरह के कम्प्यूटर रिकॉर्ड का संग्रह करने , एकाउंट्स , पुस्कालय में किताबो या पत्रिकाओं का व्यवस्थापन में भी सहयता करता है।
8. उद्योग (Industry) बहुत सारे इंडस्ट्री संसथान ; जैसे - स्टील , केमिकल , तेल कंपनी आदि कम्प्यूटर पर निर्भर है। सयंत्रड प्रक्रियाओं के वास्तविक नियंत्रड के लिए भी कम्प्यूटर का उपयोग करते है।
